Lake Information

There are six different Portage Lakes in the area, Big Portage, Rice Portage, and Deep Portage are accessible from the resort with a boat via channels between the lakes. DNR does not have any information on Rice Portage (the middle lake).

Big Portage Lake

  • Dominant Bottom Substrate: Silt, Sand

  • Abundance of Aquatics Plants: Abundant

  • Fish:

    • Abundant: Black Bullhead, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Bowfin, Brown Bullhead, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Pumpkinseed, Rock Bass, Walleye, Yellow Bullhead, and Yellow Perch 

    • Other: Blackchin Shiner, Blacknose Shiner, Bluntnose Minnow, Golden Shiner, Hybrid Sunfish and White Sucker

Deep Portage Lake

Lake Characteristics: 

  • Lake Area (acres): 122.70

  • Littoral Area (acres): 30.70

  • Maximum Depth (feet): 105.00

  • Water Clarity (feet): 18.10

  • Dominant Bottom Substrate: Sand, Detritus, Gravel 

  • Abundance of Aquatics Plants: Abundant

  • Maximum Depth of Plant Growth (feet): 22.00
